Vacation Designer

As a former teacher, as well as a long-term substitute teacher, and a mom of two kiddos with ADHD I have had years of experience fine tuning the skills that I bring into starting a new career as a travel advisor. A few of those skills that I plan to put to use when I work with families are: being organized, a good communicator, and detail-oriented; both written and spoken. Once my family and I pick a destination, I dive deep into researching the area we will be traveling to. The teacher in me can’t help but put all of that information into a binder(s) so as to not waste time trying to figure out what to do or where to go next. Organizing all of that information into a binder can be tedious at times but the reward of having your events, excursions, and dinners go smoothly is so worth all of that time and effort. However, through parenting my two kids and teaching various grades I’ve learned that things don’t always go as planned. Another skill that you quickly learn is adaptability! I feel like I can twist myself into a pretzel now with all the opportunities and experiences that have been placed before me to adapt accordingly. When I told my friends and family I was going to become a travel agent they said, “Oh you are perfect for that!’. I don’t know about that but it did get me thinking, why am I a good fit now in my 50’s to start a new career? I think the answers lie in what I just wrote above; detail-oriented, organized, flexible to switch directions if needed and I LOVE to travel and meet new people. My friends call me “Mary Poppins” because the smallest need that you may have I typically can take care of! With the ideas and suggestions that I pull out of my bag, plus providing patience through it all, the possibilities are endless! I have to say being compared to Mary Poppins in my book is a compliment and I hope to share these attributes with you when planning your next vacation.
